Welcome to Laos (I think!)

This morning we crossed the border in Laos. No need to set the alarm clock as we were woken up by incessant crowing at 5:00 a.m. as if some important message was being passed from one cockerel to another along the riverbank

Every cloud has a silver lining however and we were rewarded with a beautiful sunrise over the Mekong river:

The border crossing opened at 08:00 at which time it turned into orderly chaos. The crossing takes a few minutes

Worse is to come on the Laos side as you wait your turn to be called up by the immigration officers

Passport? Yes

Big white form? Yes

Little white form? Yes

Passport sized photo? Yes

$35 (new, unmarked bills preferred)? Yes

Ok. Please wait two hours………..

Finally we’re through. First stop is the duty free shop for a bottle of Smirnoff Vodka (half the price of wine!) also on sale is the local speciality ‘Snake Whisky’ the title of which describes the contents perfectly……

  1. You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and extremely broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
